What is Forenex?
Forenex is a private educational agency based in Madrid. We organize English language summer courses for Spanish children and have been doing it since 1992. During the past 21 summers, we have taught more than 35,000 students. Throughout the year, we fully dedicate ourselves to organizing our summer camps and have worked hard to establish ourselves as one of Spain's most dynamic English Summer Schools. Forenex manages four residential camps throughout Spain and two non-residential camps, one in Madrid and the other in Barcelona. We also offer overseas courses for students but we do not recruit teaching staff for these courses.
Recruitment
Teacher of English
We are looking for native speakers of English who have experience teaching groups of children, ideally in an ESL setting. Our main aim at Forenex is to encourage children to speak. Some of our students have contact with native speakers and some don't, so our job is to work on the knowledge that they already have in the language and encourage them to use English as a means of communication. It is vital that our teachers set the tone from the beginning of the course and enforce a safe and positive classroom environment so that all students have an equal opportunity to gain confidence in themselves and grow as English speakers.
Aside from having previous experience and being enthusiastic about teaching English, you should also be:
-dynamic
-creative
-motivated
-a team player
-energetic
-willing to improvise
-and most importantly prepared to teach English classes
We expect our teachers to be flexible, organized, hard-working and willing to adapt to a new setting in an intense atmosphere. Throughout the duration of each course, teachers will be expected to put in extra hours of work to plan their classes, as well as attend daily teachers' and level meetings run by the DOS (Director of Studies).
Teachers will also be expected to create weekly exams, as well as write reports on each of their students at the end of the fortnight. We have a resident blogger in each camp who maintains the camp blog and takes pictures and videos of everything that happens in class so that students' parents can see what their children are learning on a day to day basis. As a teacher, you will be expected to invite the blogger into your classroom a few times a week. We encourage teachers to inform bloggers when they expect to be doing interactive and dynamic activities, such as short skits or dialogues that students have produced or maybe speaking games.
We also expect our teachers to effectively and efficiently guide their class in various English projects throughout the fortnight. Our Week 1 project is called Walls Talk and focuses mainly on creative mini projects that synthesize and reflect English points covered in class. Postcards from Camp is our Week 2 project and focuses on spoken English. Information on both of these projects will be provided after teachers have been confirmed for a position, teachers will then be expected to come to camp with plenty of ideas to develop these projects along with the DOS, blogger and fellow teachers.
Teaching Conditions
Real time teaching hours are 4-5 hours of class daily and you do not have duties as a monitor. Teachers will be contracted on a weekly or fortnight basis and work for the whole month is not guaranteed. Each camp has its own set up but generally speaking each fortnight is treated as an entirely different course meaning that in the event that a teacher is given the opportunity to work for the full month of July, they will have a whole new class (the same level will try to be maintained) the following fortnight. Coruña is our only 3 week course and teachers will maintain the same students for the full 3 weeks.
In the residential courses (Uclés Mini-Camp, Uclés, La Coruña, Palma, and Pirineos) transportation to and from Madrid on the first and last day is included as is room, board and meals. In the non-residential courses in Madrid and Barcelona, lunch is provided; however, the teacher is responsible for his/her daily transport and his/her own housing.
What materials do Forenex provide?
Forenex provides a level-based workbook made up of 6 worksheets per week which consist of grammar, writing, vocabulary, reading and comprehension exercises. Teachers are also given access to listening and pronunciation packs and are expected to choose 4 worksheets that best suit the level of their class, as such teachers will be expected to complete 10 worksheets per week. These worksheets should be used in the classroom and supplemented with your own teaching ideas. In all of our courses, we highly focus on the development of our students' oral skills. This means that you as the teacher need to constantly be encouraging your students to practice and improve their English skills, whether it be through creative activities, stories, speaking games or music.
Other summer 2013 job openings in the English department:
Blogger
We are looking for native speakers who are tech savvy to observe our students in English classes and blog their daily progress. Blogs are a big part of camp life as they serve as parents' eyes and ears as to what their children learn in class. Each camp will have a resident blogger whose job is solely to blog. They will not have teaching responsibilities. There will also be one head blogger who will be available for tech and content support and who will overview all camp blogs. While students are in English class, Bloggers will generally go from classroom to classroom taking pictures and video of the lesson at hand. Bloggers will write blog posts and upload to the Forenex blogs while class is not in session, meaning that Bloggers will work outside of class hours. In order to get more of an idea of what the blogger position entails, please visit the blog page. If you possess these skills and are interested then please detail it in the “special skills” section of the application form.
